The Project

Pacy and Wheatley Interiors have completed Fire Prevention Works in South London. We were approved and appointed to carry out works on a rolling programme for the Cooperative group. This particular project mainly involves Fire Prevention Works, also with repairs to new doors and ceilings. Part decoration to the retail area and back of house was also completed along with a thorough sparkle clean to the sales area floor and external windows and pavement.

This particular Coop store was on the corner of a busy high street in Streatham South London so logistically it was very challenging as the main bulk of the works were carried out on nightshift.

We had 15 days to complete everything on the agreed scope of works. Despite the many obstacles we had to deal with, the project was completed on time.

The Solution

This particular Fire Prevention project was very challenging
with the need to fire proof all the steel
girders installed within the sales and back of house areas as well as install a new suspended ceiling
across all of the sales area. The solution here was to ensure that the store was fully fire proofed to 60
minutes which is a requirement when residents are living above the store and also to in essence carry
out a mini refit with the decoration and installation of new doors being carried out at late notice.

The end result was another tough project completed successfully, on time and on budget, carried out
on a very demanding South London high street location and to a very high standard. The project
achieved zero accidents and the staff and customers have been left with a fresher, cleaner and brighter
looking store, now with compliant Fire Prevention Works completed.

Suspended Ceiling Refurbishment in Rotherham

The Project

Pacy & Wheatley Interiors complete a Suspended Ceiling refurbishment in Rotherham,Yorkshire for the Wilko group. We were approached regarding a roll out of full ceiling tile changes to the sales floor in various stores across the country. The works were undertaken out of hours, commencing as the store closed at 1800hrs and handing the store back to the duty manager at 6am. We had a phased programme to work to with designated areas of the store being allocated for each night. The works needed to be completed over 5 nights.

The tight programme was very challenging as it was not just a case of swapping ceiling tiles. This particular ceiling had originally been installed over 18 years ago and various areas of it were in a bad state of repair, there was a lot of remedial works to complete with the original hangers and fixings having either fallen off or were missing. The existing grid was also to be maintained, which again was in a poor state of repair. We were also requested to clean the grid as we replaced the ceiling tiles, this again was difficult and time consuming as the grid was very dirty and thick with black smoke stains caused by the heating and ventilation system. A large part of the works involved protecting the stock and gondola shelving from the dust and debris that fell from the ceiling once the tiles were removed. This required lightweight plastic sheeting to be used, removed and relocated to suit the phasing of the works. Once the existing plastic protection was removed following completion of the phased area we then had to carefully vacuum and clean down the flooring and shelving before commencing with the next phase.

This project although small in size was very logistically challenging as we could not send any plant or materials into the store during trading hours and there was also no room to place a skip. This meant that we had to physically collect pallets of tiles on a daily basis and deliver them to the store. We also had to fill our vans up every night with the old ceiling tiles and take them to a warehouse 10 miles away for disposal. This procedure was repeated every day until project completion. Health and safety was of paramount importance whilst these projects were ongoing as there was obviously working at height and lifting involved. This was managed very efficiently and resulted in a zero accident project being achieved.

The Solution

This particular store is set on a very busy high street and as detailed above very logistically
challenging. The solution is that the store has now got what looks like a brand new Suspended
Ceiling to the sales area resulting in a lighter and brighter feel when shopping here. The process
 was very well managed by P&W interiors working alongside Bardo Electrical who carried out
 lighting changes and Electrical safety work during the project. This was a very good team effort
 with everyone working together to ensure that the project handed over on time and on budget
 and to the clients full satisfaction. Another difficult and challenging high street project handed
over with zero accidents achieved.

The Project

Pacy and Wheatley Interiors complete an Interior Refurbishment project in East Sussex. We were approved and appointed to carry out works on a rolling programme for the Cooperative group, this particular project mainly involves Fire prevention works with repairs and decoration being carried out within the retail area.

The vast amounts of existing Cooperative stores are on high streets or busy side roads and as such many of them have flats/apartments above the shop. It was found following a routine visit by a fire officer to a certain store that the fire prevention between the shop and the accommodation above was totally inadequate or non-existent. Subsequently leading to all of the Cooperative stores being surveyed and a scope of works being put together with a view to a rolling programme of fire prevention works being carried out for a total of 3 months from October this year.

The Solution

The programme of works commenced as detailed above. The works involved following on from
the scoping visits varied significantly, some stores requiring minor works and others needing store
closures with ceilings having to be removed whilst steel columns above were fire proofed to achieve
60 minutes protection.

This particular project was very challenging indeed with the need to fire proof all the steel girders
installed within the back of house area. The challenge here was that there was a very small void
above the ceiling and a myriad of cables located within the working area. The solution was to bring
in an Electrical contractor to identify and label the existing wiring that was to be kept and check and
remove the redundant wiring. The remaining wiring was then laid neatly into Galvanised trunking,
this enabled better and safer access to the steels and walls that needed to be fire proofed.
This particular store formed part of a row of shops and on closer inspection it was found that there
was no fire prevention installed between each unit meaning that if a fire started then there was no
means of stopping the fire spreading. The solution here was to install a 60 minute fire curtain
between the Cooperative store and the hair dressers salon next door so as to stop the risk of fire
spreading.

The whole of the back of house area was fully decorated and a brand new suspended ceiling installed,
the end result being a safer fire proofed area for the staff to work in along with a fresher and brighter
feel to the whole area, another successful Interior Refurbishment completed.
